Wood has been used for thousands of years as a building material. There is a vast range of raw materials made from wood, from solid wood to plywood and laminated wood to wood veneer.
Each type of wood has a precise purpose. The shelf in the images is made from a plywood panel composed of a series of sheets glued together with inverted grains and subsequently veneered (with a 1 millimetre thick veneer) to achieve the desired finish.
HPL (High Pressure Laminate) is a composite material composed of a series of sheets of paper glued together with thermosetting resins. The panel is obtained by pressing the sheets of paper impregnated with the resin at high pressure and at a high temperature to obtain an extremely hard and resistant surface.
